Agra -Fatehpur Sikri

March 8th 2015

Today we started our five hour drive to Agra. The drive was interesting to see how the average person lives in India. There were many motorcycles with 2,3 or 4 passengers, countless herds of sheep and goats crossing the roads and auto-rickshaws. We saw very few cars and the occasional truck that would be completely overloaded. The few cars we did see had people riding on the roof. I even saw a camel pulling a wagon.

Four people on a motorcycle. (very common)

Lunch!

We stopped in Uttar Pradesh for lunch and got some traditional northern Indian food. I had platter with multiple Indian dishes, garnished with vegetables and a centerpiece carved from fruit, illuminated with a light inside. It looked really cool.

New baby!

Sandy was excited to hold a newborn baby that was in the restaurant.

We continues our drive to Fatehpur Sikri.

Fatehpur Sikri

This is a historic fortified city in the Agra District of Uttar Pradesh, India, that served as the short-lived capital of the Mughal Empire from 1571 to 1585. Built by Emperor Akbar, it is renowned for its well-preserved red sandstone architecture that blends Hindu, Muslim, and Christian styles.

Tonight we will be staying in the Radisson Blu in Agra.
