Hotel La Palapa

We flew into Cancun and caught a private van that took us to Chiquilá. It was about a two hour drive with one stop for refreshments and bathroom break. Our driver took us to the port in Chiquilá where we will be catching a ferry to get to the island of Holbox.

Once we got to Holbox, we found that there are no cars, only gulf carts. We hired a taxi driver driving a golf cart to drive us to our hotel, the La Palapa Hotel.

Our Room at La Palapa Hotel
The La Palapa Hotel is an adult only hotel on the beach. Our room was on the second floor and faced the beach. It has a pool and a bar. We were given complimentary drinks when we arrived. It was a specialty drink made with tequila. It was quite good.

It is Carnival Celebration going on in Hoblox. As we were settling in to our hotel, we noticed colorful dressed people walking along the beach past our hotel. We found out later that these were “actors” heading to the Carnival Celebrations.

El Nopal
The hotel bar gave us a called El Nopal. It is a mezcal‑infused house cocktail.

After the sun set, the Carnival Celebrations started. Our hotel was next to the streets where the celebrations happened. These celebrations went on all night! Noise could be heard all night.
