Halibut Fishing!

August 18th, 2022

Toady we chartered a saltwater fishing trip with Big Dans Fishing Charter. This is a full day fishing trip fishing for halibut, salmon and cod. We had to get a fishing license at a local shop before we got on the boat. You had to pay extra for a King Salmon Stamp to be added to your license. We did not know what to expect, so Sandy got the extra stamp, I did not.

The catamaran boat we chartered with Big Dans Fishing Charter.

We came prepared with our fishing license and motion sickness patch. Unfortunately there was a couple on the boat as well, and they did not have motion sickness medicine. The wife was sea sick for the entire 5 hour fishing trip.

We were fine and had a great time fishing. First the charter took us to an area to catch halibut. We had to drop a line deep into the water and wait for a strike. The crew would bait and set up our fishing poles. Once we had a strike on our line, we had to pull it up. This would take 5-10 minutes as you had to slowly pull it up from a deep depth. This would become very tiring. Sandy found out that the crew would pull her catch up for her after she turned the crank 5 times.

We filled out our limits for halibut, king salmon and coho (silver) salmon. We both also caught some cod of which there is no limit.

The crew cut up and cleaned our fish as we headed back to port. When the boat returned to the harbor, they had a service there that would pick up our fish to flash-freeze and package it. They will keep it frozen until we pick it up to take home.
