Lisbon Neighborhoods

Slept in today. It is a shopping day today. We had brunch at an artisanal bakery. We had a great table overlooking the area where they were preparing the pastries. It was fun to watch.

doBecco

doBeco is a cozy, artisanal bakery and café in Lisbon, celebrated for its slow-fermented breads, inventive pastries, and creative brunch menu in a welcoming, dog-friendly environment. Laura wanted to go out for brunch, so we found this cafe near our Airbnb. We were seated at a table in the upper level overlooking the bakers. It was fascinating watching them roll out and make croissants.

I tried their “tornado” eggs with in house cured bacon, roasted potatoes and ratatoullie. Sandy got the Shakshuka Eggs with roasted leek and feta cheese.

After our delicious brunch, we took a Bolt to the historic Baixa district. Here we saw the Santa Justa Lift. Laura took us to her favorite ceramic shop. We made a few purchases. Laura got a 6 place table setting. It was a lot to carry back. We had to stop at a sangria patio to rest on our way back!

Santa Justa Lift

The Santa Justa Lift, a Neo-Gothic vertical elevator in Lisbon, links Baixa to Carmo Square and offers panoramic city views from its observation deck. The steep geography of the area made it necessary to have these vertical people lifts. This one was made in 1902 and was influenced by the iron-work of the Eiffel Tower. It is the last of its kind in Lisbon.

After walking around (and purchasing a lot of ceramics), we needed a break and came across a plaza with a Sangria Bar. Yeah for us! They had two options. a red sangria or a white. Laura and Sandy got white, I got the red. While enjoying our drinks, the couple sitting next to us offered us some pasteis de nata. They had takena cooking class and could not eat them all. They did a pretty good job! Everyone here is so friendly!

Sangria Break!

After a quick nap, we headed to an area near the harbor called LXFactory. This was once an old industrial textile complex and is now home to Lisbon’s trendiest restaurants, bars, and shops. As expected, we purchased more ceramics and found some fun places to sit and enjoy some wine. The weather was cooler than usual, so it was not very crowded.

LXFactory

This is a very artsy area. There was a lot of street art as well as art for sale. Here is a sampling.

We ended the evening listening to live jazz while snacking on some appetizers. Great day!
