Drive to Inverness

We took a scenic drive from Blairgowrie to Inverness. We stopped at a few sights along the way.

Dunnottar Castle

Dunnottar Castle is a ruined medieval castle on steep cliffs that drop into the North Sea. It has a narrow strip of land that connects it with the mainland, so it is mostly surrounded by water. It is best known as the place where the Scottish Crown Jewels were hid from Oliver Cromwell in the 17th Century.

We hiked out to the cliff that overlooks the castle. We did not have time to hike out to the ruins. It was cold and windy.

The Old Pier Cafe

We needed a quick warm up, so we found a coffee shop in StoneHaven just north of the castle.

Johnstown’s of Elgin

We were interested in getting some Scottish woolens and heard about this store in Elgin. They had very nice cashmere and woolens, but they were VERY expensive. Found out that they are appointed by the Queen for their woolens. Now the price makes sense.
