Driving through the Highlands

The drive to Isle of Skye takes you through the Highlands. There is the quick way that is about 2 hours. We choose the scenic drive that took us 7 hours. Well worth it. We were lucky to have a sunny warm day. No rain!

Our route took us through Benin Eighe National Preserve. the mountain ridge is covered in quartzite that makes it look like snow. This was also my introduction to single track roads. As the name indicates, the road only has one “track” (basically one lane wide enough for one car). There are passing areas for when you come across oncoming traffic (or if someone behind you wants to pass). Traffic was light, so it went pretty smoothly.

Kishorn

Once we crossed the highlands to the west coast, we came across this great little seafood bar. They had really fresh scallops and langoustines (really big shrimp). It was all delicious!

Lochcarron Weavers Heritage Shop

We stopped at this little shop in Lachcarron. There was a pottery shed where Sandy picked out a tile, and the weaving shop had a hat that sandy liked and I got a scarf. The cashier knew the person that knitted the hat and showed Sandy a trick with the hat that allows you to remove the Pom Pom with a button inside the hat.
