Grotte di Frassi

April 6th, 2026

Morning sunrise over the Adriatic Sea.

The Monday after Easter is a national holiday in Italy. Combine that with a stunningly beautiful day (72 sunny and no wind). Everyone is out! The beach was crowded when I went out for my morning walk.

Antonio took us to Grotte di Frasassi today. It is the largest cave in Europe. It was only found by a bunch of teenagers in 1971. Only Mammoth Cave in Kentucky is bigger. We were able to get an English tour, but the place was very busy.

After the cave tour we took in the sun with a cold beer. It was a nice relaxing day. We dropped Antonio off at home and said our goodbyes. He was a fantastic host. I am very proud of the man he has turned into.

Enjoying the sunny afternoon with Antonio.

Back at the seaside house, all the bars and restaurants were packed. It was like south Miami Beach!

Antonio’s parents had prepared a nice dinner for us since it would have been difficult to get a table in a restaurant. We had told them earlier that we would take them out to dinner, but that did not work. Antonio’s dad likes to cook and he made us another wonderful meal. This is our last night here, so we simply spent the evening chatting and enjoying the night.
