Marine Wildlife Tour
August 20th, 2022
Today I booked the Marine Wildlife Tour with Bay Excursions.
Bay Excursions
This tour consists of two basic areas. First we saw many sea otters and sea lions, as we traveled through Kachemak Bay.
Next we went to Gull Island. The Gull Island rookery is a top attraction of Kachemak Bay. It is a nesting colony for sea birds. Each summer, birds who spend the rest of their lives at sea, converge on offshore rocks or islands to produce their next generation of offspring. Gull Island hosts over 13,000 birds each summer and is a never ceasing hive of activity and abundant life. Here, we saw Puffins and many other birds.
After the tour, we stopped by Homer Fish Processing to pick up our fish. They had vacuum sealed all our fillets, flash froze them and packed them into airport approved shipping boxes with dry ice. We had 48 hours to get them home and into a freezer.
Taking the side roads back to Anchorage, found a tree full of bear cubs and a big old moose. Next stop, airport and a red eye flight home.
Family of Bears in Tree.
